Legal Domain Expert (Part-time)

This is not a traditional in-house legal role. We’re building challenging, long-horizon legal tasks and evaluation frameworks for large AI models. You’ll break down real-world workflows from Tier-1 law firms and leading companies’ in-house legal teams into structured task maps, then design tasks and scoring criteria based on real business scenarios. You’ll turn your professional methods into training standards that models can learn from and be evaluated against.

What you’ll do

  1. 01Collaborate with the data product and engineering teams by taking part in interviews, reviewing materials, and using the platform.
  2. 02Build task maps: Break down real-world legal work, such as contract review, due diligence, legal research, document drafting, and case analysis, into a structured set of tasks organized by difficulty.
  3. 03Design tasks: Use the task maps to create high-quality tasks that distinguish between ability levels, cover foundational through advanced skills, and reflect real business scenarios.
  4. 04Set standards: Write reproducible reference answers and scoring rubrics that specify what earns credit and how to score borderline cases.
  5. 05Ensure quality: Review tasks and annotations, resolve disputed assessments using your professional judgment, and continually refine the evaluation process.

What we look for

  1. 01At least 3 years of legal experience at a Tier-1 law firm or on a leading company’s in-house legal team, whether in compliance, litigation, or non-litigation practice.
  2. 02Deep expertise in at least one core practice area, such as corporate law / M&A, dispute resolution, capital markets, intellectual property, or compliance.
  3. 03Strong analytical skills and precise writing, with the ability to break down complex work into structured tasks and standards.
  4. 04Strong communication skills and the ability to explain tacit legal expertise clearly to teams without a legal background.
  5. 05Must have passed the legal professional qualification examination. Legal training at a top university or an overseas qualification (JD / LLM / NY Bar / CA Bar) is preferred.

Nice to have

  • In-depth experience in a specific industry or jurisdiction.
  • Teaching or mentoring experience and the ability to present professional methods as a structured framework.
